Nadine Terk began her career as a Japanese Art Historian, with degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. She lived in Japan for two years to study the traditional Eastern art forms of tea ceremony, ikebana, and Hagi pottery. After moving to Jacksonville in 1997, she taught art history at the University of North Florida and Flagler College. She held the positions of Curator of the Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art and produced exhibitions of local and national significance. Terk made the transition from art educator to artist more than a decade ago. Her initial studies were at the Art Students' League in New York City. In 2005, she began studying classical drawing, figurative work and portraiture at Studio Incamminati with Nelson Shanks. Terk has since engaged in a variety of projects that encourage the rethinking of social constructs. Beyond Clean (2010-2011), a multi-media collaboration, explores object value relationships and the ritualization of cleaning as a contemporary answer to the Japanese tea ceremony. There For You (2011-2014) is a series of portraits of breast cancer survivors and their audio stories recorded in her studio during the portrait sessions. Terk was honored to become Resident Artist at White Oak Conservation Center from 2012-2013, where she completed a series of portraits of some of the world's most endangered species. She was subsequently chosen to be Artist in Residence of the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival during the 2013-2014 season. This recent body of work is an exploration of the underlying elements that connect classical music and painting.
